At least 300,000 workers in the UK have reported symptoms of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), also known as White Finger. Workers who operate vibrating hand machinery are more likely to develop HAVS, a condition that can become irreversible. HAVS is the most common disease assessed by the DSS and is the most common under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR).
This is a major concern within the industry and one which we have been quick to respond to.
In many cases the risk has been eliminated completely by the introduction of remote control equipment. Not only does this mean that the operative can keep a safe distance, but smaller or dangerous places can now be reached, offering more flexibility in the project.
Diamond Motion will evaluate the risks involved with each project in an individual risk assessment. The use of vibrating hand equipment will only be considered if all other options have been exhausted, and then only within the parameters laid out under statutory obligations.
